Industrial Pump Troubleshooting & FAQs
Why is my centrifugal pump losing discharge pressure and flow rate?
A gradual loss in flow and head is typically caused by worn wear rings or impeller erosion. When the clearance between the casing wear rings and the impeller hub exceeds factory tolerances (typically over .015" or .38mm), high-pressure discharge fluid slips back into the low-pressure suction eye, significantly lowering volumetric efficiency. We resolve this by thermally spraying the wear surfaces and precision-grinding them back to OEM specifications.
How can I prevent cavitation damage in high-temperature chemical process pumps?
Cavitation occurs when the Net Positive Suction Head Available (NPSHa) drops below the pump's required NPSHr, causing vapor bubbles to form and violently collapse against the impeller shroud. To combat this in aggressive chemical environments, we rebuild eroded impellers using corrosion-resistant alloys (like Hastelloy or Duplex Stainless Steel) and apply advanced erosion-resistant ceramic composite coatings.
What are the advantages of upgraded mechanical cartridge seals over traditional packing?
Traditional compression packing requires a constant, controlled drip to lubricate the shaft, which leads to product waste, shaft sleeve wear, and constant maintenance. Upgrading to a balanced mechanical cartridge seal (configured to API 682 piping plans) provides a completely leak-free seal boundary. This eliminates environmental hazards, prevents shaft sleeve wear, and significantly reduces downtime.
